Oh, Vermont. Everybody says you’re so pretty, that your forests are so lush and dense, that your produce is so local, that your people are so friendly and . . . well, healthy. For the sixth year in a row, Vermont, you’ve ranked first in the American Health Rankings, released yesterday by United Health for 2012. [http://www.americashealthrankings.org/Rankings]

But, Vermont, I ask you. Isn’t it time you let one of the other 49 of us give health a try? Oregon, for instance… We too have lush forests. We too have local produce. And yet, we’re only thirteenth, down from eighth place last year.

I’ll tell you what, Vermont. You think you can beat us? We challenge you to a walk off. Eight weeks, you pick the map, you pick the goal. And bring your buddy, Hawaii, too. It’s time we settle this once and for all.
