I’m from a small town (<10,000 people) in rural Ohio, where I grew up playing sports and doing projects like newspaper routes, buying & selling collectibles, and the like. In high school, soccer stuck as my sport of choice, and that enabled me to play in college and beyond.

What brought you to Portland and how long have you lived in Portland?
I’ve been in Portland for almost 10 years. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, and I felt the Midwest wasn’t the best place to be for that. I actually made a spreadsheet with weighted values for the elements I cared about, and I chose Portland. (Note: Vancouver BC actually was top of the list back in 2009, but it was far easier to stay in the States).

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Chess, coaching & playing soccer, working with local startups, bouldering, eating pho, reading, writing, biking, and playing around with coding/amateur app development.

What is the last book you read?
Harry Potter and the Cauldron of Fire. I’m halfway through the series (I’ve somehow made it this far having never read the series or seen one of the movies, so no spoilers).

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
I’m not much of a “bucket list” guy, but I’d say these are safe bets:

  1. Transact in cryptocurrency in South America
  2. Eat Pho in Vietnam & Cambodia
  3. Play soccer in the Netherlands

Do you have a fun fact you would like to share about yourself?
I dunno, here’s a few…

  • I lived and worked on an urban permaculture farm for 4 years.
  • I have an obscure degree in Sports Management
  • I can’t whistle

How do you like to stay active?
Bouldering, biking, soccer, hiking
