Tuesday.  Four times I've made over 10k since October 1st.  My September average was 8253, so that is quite the increase for me. And, I notice, according to the WT blog, we hit a record number of steps per day last week.  I can't help but wonder if other people are walking more, as I am, in an attempt (conscious or not) to keep anxiety about the economy at bay.

Planning to start a virtual walk from CA to FL next time I'm in Moss Beach.  Here is basic route planning to follow (including stop off to "see" grandparents)  http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sad … 4&z=3.  At about 3 miles a day, will only take me about 1,000 days (one way!).

Photo today is S @ Jeanne DuPrau signing.  I really enjoyed "City of Ember" which will come to the big screen this week.  Sadly, was so disappointed by the second book that I've not finished the series.

OGTTHT: Got our (signed) copy of Gaiman's "The Graveyard Book"; I get to read it first!

Where does the signing take place? Local bookstore?

My guy is all over the place attending signings...He goes to bookstores, conventions, ticketed events and anywhere else he is likely to find authors ;-)  I believe this one was at Hicklebee's, the one (remaining) brick-and-mortar in our area that specializes in children's books.

Ah. Then you sell the signed books? Or does he just collect them?

Yes, we sell them (although he does take his personal books to be signed whenever he can...but books to be sold come first).  We have a complete set of the Ember series up for sale; all four first edition, first printings and all four signed (not inscribed) by DuPrau...just waiting for the right bibliophile to take them home ;-)

We mostly just go to signings for authors/illustrators we like (that doesn't narrow things down very much!)...which means, even when we have to sell the books, we get to meet an interesting figure.  That's how I got to meet Jane Goodall.  I had one personal, children's book to get signed.  Everything else we had was for sale.  But, I still had a *great* time at the event (despite the crowd) and will never forget getting to hear her speak and getting to meet her.

I would have loved to have heard her as well!

She was amazing and she still tours...I think the Hope for Nature tour is still going on (http://www.janegoodall.org/).

Maya Angelou is also amazing to see.  Neil Gaiman is another of my favorites...but in more of a "rock star" way, less of an inspirational way.  Octavia Butler I only saw once and, the train was late so, we only heard the very tail end of her talk...but it was right before she died and she is one of my favorites, so it was amazing to meet her.

Yeah, there are some perks to this job (she says, on a day when the economic news is terrifying and when we've not gotten *any* orders).
